Last Tuesday, May 31, the Consell de Formentera transformed its establishment into a slightly safer space. The installation of a defibrillator is a project to save lives.
85% of deaths from heart attacks occur as a result of ventricular fibrillation failure, i.e. when there is a cessation of blood circulation in the body. In this situation, if immediate action is not taken, the victim’s death is irreversible, which is why more and more institutions are taking measures to protect the population of their community from this.
For his part, Lluís Tubau, CEO of the company Emergency Staff and supplier of most of the defibrillators installed in the Balearic Islands indicates the characteristics of the equipment installed;
“AEDs have common technical characteristics; they are easy to use with minimal training. These defibrillators, once they are switched on and the adhesive electrodes are attached to the victim, analyse the heart rhythm and emit verbal and acoustic messages. With very little we can save many lives. Our main goal is to take care of those around us. A small change can change the lives of thousands and thousands of people”.
